As my brother and I were sitting down talking about the day, I got a glimpse of a weird car making its way around the woodland gas station parking lot. My first thought was, “OK, well this is cool. That’s the Google Maps car.”
When I figured out what was going on I turned around and got the sun behind me. As he came around the back I got a better view. As you can see, it wasn’t the ‘Google’ car, it was ‘Bing.’
I said what??? Seems forever all we ever see down the road is the Google camera car that is known to shoot some very funny pictures from time to time.
Their mapping data and images that go with it are a great tool for every day use, no more paying for those expensive “GPS” devices, now every one can enjoy the free use of the GPS satellites with free mapping to go along with.
Seems most of us use Google for street view vantage points, but Bing does have a neat “Bird’s eye” angle from above, that’s why the camera is mounted on a long tripod atop of the car at about 4 feet.
It’s different enough from “aerial” to make a difference.
