Burn Suspension Update

Following recent rain, the Madera -Mariposa-Merced Unit (MMU) of CAL FIRE, has lifted the
suspension of burning within State Responsibility Area (SRA) in Mariposa County effective Monday November 17, 2014 While cooler temperatures have helped to diminish the threat of wildfire, residents are asked to use caution while conducting hazard reduction burns. Burn permits are required for all burning projects and burning will be limited to the hours between 7:00 PM and 8:00 AM with a valid
burn permit that can be obtained at your local CAL FIRE station. Residents must follow burning requirements and maintain control of their fire at all times. Property owners may be held liable if a fire escapes their control and/or burns the property of a neighbor.

Hazard reduction burning is being allowed due to current favorable conditions. If favorable conditions change we will suspend burning until favorable conditions return. CALFIRE is closely monitoring fire and weather conditions daily.

Burn permit requirements include limiting pile size to a maximum of 4 feet by 4 feet in diameter and height. Maintain the area within 10 feet of the outer edge of a debris pile free and clear of all flammable material and vegetation. A responsible adult must be in attendance at all times with water and a shovel. The fire has to be completely out before leaving it at any time. Never burn on
days forecasted to have high or gusty winds. All vegetation is already much drier than normal for this
time of year, remember One Less Spark.. One Less Wildfire”. CAL FIRE reminds all citizens it is your
responsibility to check burn day status by calling the Mariposa County Air Pollution Control District at 209-966-1200, prior to starting your burning.
