Deputy Interrupts Easton Burglary

A sheriff deputy caught two burglars in the act at a home in Easton. The Fresno County Sheriff’s office says the homes security system and quick response by a deputy saved a family from losing electronics and their car.

"She notices that one of the windows is shattered she looks through that window and just happens to see somebody walking by," Tony Botti a spokesperson with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said.

The deputy called for backup. When suddenly the garage door opened.

"She hears a car starting like it’s about to back out, she walks over there and tells the person inside get out show your hands and it’s a teenage kid carrying a bunch of electronics," Botti said.

The deputy ordered another teen out of the car and told both suspects to get on the ground.

Although the alarm was ringing loudly, the teens ransacked each room in the home.

"They dumped out dresser drawers and moved mattresses looking underneath them I just got finished cleaning up a bunch of broken glass," Jessica Owens who lives there said.

She says their home has been burglarized before and she is glad nothing was taken.

"I was worried that the alarm wasn’t set and no one was going to get here and at least she was brave enough to step in and do something before waiting for everyone. Makes me feel a little safer," Owens said.

The Sheriff’s Office says the suspects claim to live in Easton.

"We have had a considerable amount of burglaries and even some robberies in the Easton area so as we get to know them, look up their criminal records. Maybe it will lead to solving some other cases based on these two young guys," Botti said.
