In February Turbo Tax Briefly shutdown its service to investigate.

Raising the questions what responsibility if any does TurboTax have to protect consumers?

"There’s obviously cutbacks at the IRS so there’s not as much manpower to try to fix these issues," Albert Gonzalez, Manager at United Tax Returns in Fresno said.

He recommends people file early and always use a secure line when using online tax prep services.

"If you are a Starbucks doing your tax return for some reason. Don’t do it on WI-FI. That’s probably 9 times out of 10 why the information gets stolen," Gonzalez said.

He also recommends never emailing tax information because that can be hacked.

"It’s always that one person who really needed that return or was looking forward to getting their money and now they are having to deal with that issue so get started early, stay on a secured network and contact a tax professional," Gonzalez said.

The IRS is updating their security.

If your tax return is rejected, contact the IRS immediately. You may have to mail in your return. It could take weeks to get it sorted out.
