Man Rescued After Falling into San Joaquin River

A man is now recovering after being pulled out of the San Joaquin River in northwest Fresno Sunday night.

Police say the 40-year-old man had been fishing on the ledge when that ledge gave way.

He called 911 while holding onto branches, before drifting down stream.

Officers found him still breathing on his own, but say he was unresponsive.

Once rescuers got him out of the water, they had to carry him about 400-yards up a steep cliff to the ambulance.

He has since been released from the hospital.
