Prop 47 may impact fire crews

A new law may make it harder for non-violent inmates, who help to fight wildfires in California, to qualify to be on the front lines.
Prop 47 reduces penalties for non-violent crimes, like drug possession.
This could deplete the pool of jail inmates who qualify for fire duty.
Voters passed the new law that allows early release of criminals last week.
We expect to learn more about how this could impact local communities.
The California Conservancy Camp known as The MT Bullion CALFIRE Camp in the Mariposa County area would be affected as this camp uses inmates to clean fire breaks and excessive brush along road sides during the winter months to prepare for the fire season, inmates also perform mop-up operations and post clean up on most of the mountain fires
