Sequoia NF 2016 Tree Mortality Response (Wildfire)

Sequoia National Forest2016 Tree Mortality Response Mission: The mission of the US Forest Service is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the Nation’s forests and grasslands to meet the needs of present and future generations. The tree mortality impact has created such situations within California that the Governor has declared a state of emergency and the Pacific Southwest Region has implemented a coordinated response to mitigate hazards. The primary emergency was defined as the imminent danger presented by dead and dying trees that are falling at an ever-increasing rate across the impacted area. Secondarily, the threat of catastrophic wildfire continues, putting communities and critical watersheds at risk. The geographic limits of this large scale incident are the tree mortality impacted areas on the Stanislaus, Sierra and Sequoia National Forests.
