Ward (Wildfire)

Firefighters are making good progress and the Ward fire is now 40% contained. It is approximately 195 acres, located near Ward Creek in Genesee Valley (T25N, R11E, Section 12), about 10 air-miles southeast of Taylorsville, CA. A spot fire is burning immediately next to the main fire on the east side.The fire burned from private land into national forest and grew as a result of brisk winds in late afternoon and early evening on Monday. Calmer winds and rain slowed the fire over the evening and early morning on Tuesday. Over 158 firefighters are on scene and more are arriving. An air tanker and Type 1 helicopter are assigned to the fire for use as needed. Several retardant drops have occurred as a result. The fire started in the afternoon of Monday, April 13, 2015. There is no likely threat to life, safety and health.The cause remains under investigation.
