CHP: Man Dies After Jumping From Moving Car on Hwy 41

<div>One person is dead after being struck on the southbound Hwy 41 Monday night.</div><div><br /></div><div>It happened just before 9 p.m.&nbsp;right before the Ashlan Ave. exit.</div><div><br /></div><div>The&nbsp;victim is a male, but no other information was available at the time, according to Officer Scot Esmay with the Fresno area CHP.</div><div><br /></div><div>The victim was the passenger in a car. He jumped out while the car was moving at freeway speeds, Esmay said. </div><div><br /></div><div>The driver of the car, a male, stopped. The&nbsp;relation between the driver and the passenger is unknown at this point.&nbsp;</div><div><br /></div><div>Multiple people called 911 to report a body in the road.</div><div><br /></div><div>The victim died on scene, and the coroner’s van picked up the body at about 10 p.m.</div><div><br /></div><div>&quot;For an unknown reason, a passenger in that vehicle jumped out into the roadway traveling down the freeway. That person after landing in the road was run over by a minimum of at least one car, possibly two cars,&quot; Esmay said.</div><div><br /></div><div>The body came to rest in the middle lane just below the Gettysburg Ave. overpass. </div><div><br /></div><div>The CHP and Fresno police stopped traffic at the Shaw Ave. on ramp but allowed traffic to pass&nbsp;through the right lane.&nbsp;</div><div><br /></div><div>By 11 p.m., traffic was back to normal.</div><div><br /></div><div>Investigators are working to identify the person and to figure out why the victim jumped from the car.</div><br /></div>
