The Central Valley community continues to show support to the family of Janessa Ramirez. Janessa is the nine-year old girl who was shot and killed more than two weeks ago by a stray bullet in West Central Fresno. The Fresno Police Department said it has determined the bullet came from a gun fight between two rival gangs nearly 300 feet away from Janessa.

On Saturday, February 7, the Rockabilly Mafia Car Club is putting on a car and bike show from 9:30am to 4pm at Saint Helen’s Catholic Church in Southeast Fresno to raise money for Janessa’s family. Organizers said they hope this turns into an annual event, so Janessa’s name and legacy lives on.

David Rios, the President of the Rockabilly Mafia Car Club said 35 car and motorcycle clubs have already promised to be at the show. Rios and his vice president, Johnny Cedillo, said they don’t personally now Janessa’s mother, Stacey Gonzales, but they both said the car show is a way to show support and speak out against gun violence.

Rios said, "Well we’re a car club, how about we have a car show and reach out to the fellow car club community and biker community, and maybe we can just rally the troops and raise some money for the family."

Both Rios and Cedillo are fathers, and they said they felt helpless when they heard about Janessa’s death.

Cedillo said, "To spread the message to stop the violence. I think we’ve all had enough of that."

Last Friday, Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer announced Isaac Stafford and Brian Cooks’ arrest in connection to Janessa’s homicide. The car show comes at a time when Janessa’s family is still mourning, now over confusion as to why Stafford has been released from jail, with no charges filed.

Lisa Smittcamp, the Fresno County District Attorney said, "Isaac Stafford was released from the Fresno County Jail because we sent the case back to the Fresno Police Department for further investigation, and that’s pretty much all I can say at this point."

The car show is free to the public- Cedillo and Rios’ way to get as many from the community to come out to remember the girl they say, who was taken too soon.

"We never want to forget Janessa. And what we’ve decided to do is, we are gonna make this an annual event so Janessa is gone, but not forgotten," said Rios.
