Couple Asks for the Return of Son's Ashes

Heartbreak for a Clovis family. Their son’s ashes were stolen during a burglary.

Jewelry and tools were also taken during the break-in. But all the couple wants back are the ashes of their first-born son.

The break-in happened Monday, when James and Katie Hall were at Valley Children’s Hospital with their daughter. She has cerebral palsy and is hospitalized with pneumonia.

When James got home from the hospital he discovered their home had been broken into.

"This is where my wife’s jewelry box was and this is where the urn was kept," James said, as he pointed to a dresser next to the bed in the master bedroom. James says he burglar grabbed a wooden jewelry box and another wooden box next to it which held their son’s ashes.

"We keep him in a very tender place, like right next to our bed, very intimate thing that we like to keep close to us," James said.

James and Katie lost their son, James Junior, in 2010. Katie was just 25 weeks into her pregnancy when she went into labor. James Junior died shortly after birth.

"I’ve already lost him once and now I’ve lost him a second time," James Hall said.

James says the thief broke in through a side door to the garage, took Katie’s jewelry and tools from the garage. But all they want back are their son’s ashes.

"The jewelry and other stuff means nothing to me. I just want the ashes back. I just want my son’s remains," James said.

They have mementos from the hospital: a knit cap, the baby’s tiny footprints. But they hope that their son’s ashes are safe somewhere and will soon be returned to his home, where he is treasured and thought of every day.

The Hall’s are asking the person who stole their son’s ashes to return them. Leave them at the house, police station or fire station. Just return them. No questions asked.
