The principal brought in community members to read too, saying he didn’t want the message of Dr. King to only come from teachers because it multiples the understanding of who he was.

Students were then asked to take all that information and write an informative essay about the life and legacy of Dr. King. The top essay’s will be singled out and students will receive an award. Students at King Elementary don’t just honor the late Civil Rights leader on his birthday; every morning they recite what the principal calls their guidelines for success, which is based on Dr. King’s dream.
