Essay, art and speech contest help in honor of MLK

At a packed house in Clovis last night, the 31st annual Essay, Art and Speech Contest was held, honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Students from all over Fresno County took part. <br /><br />This year, students had to write about a person who lives up to the legacy of Dr. King. Isabella Cruz, a 5th grader from Kerman, chose to write about a girl who was shot by the Taliban after speaking out in favor of girls going to school. <br /><br />&quot;She was a very inspiring person. And I thought she fought the topic perfectly. Because she stood up for humanity herself, and a lot of other people and she stood up for women’s education,&quot;&nbsp;<span style="font-size: 13.3333330154419px;">Isabella Cruz, from Sun Empire Elementary in Kerman&nbsp;said.<br /><br /><br /></span>More than 200 students competed in this year’s contest, from second through 12th grade.&nbsp;<br /><br /></div>
