<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;">New helmet cam video from the Fresno Fire Department shows the dramatic rescue of three young children from a burning apartment building Sunday.&nbsp;</div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><br /></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;">The children suffered smoke inhalation and remain in critical condition. &nbsp;</div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><br /></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;">The thick smoke quickly filled the rooms inside the Southwest Fresno apartment.&nbsp;</div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<br />&quot;We immediately ran it, made access and wanted to get those kids out,&quot; said Fresno firefighter James Perkins.</div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><br /></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;">Perkins was one of a few who ran in to save the children, ages 1, 3 and 4.</div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><br /></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;">The fire was fairly small, but the toxic, black smoke enveloped the apartment.</div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><br /></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;">Perkins rescued one of the two children who was unconscious in a back bedroom.</div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><br /></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;">Through the smoke, firefighters found another child near the front of the apartment.</div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><br /></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;">The video shows one of the firefighters freeing one of the children through a window that was broken.</div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><br /></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;">The entire rescue took four minutes.</div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><br /></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;">According to Fresno Fire Chief Kerri Donis, the department responded to about 38,000 calls for help in 2014. But for Perkins–this was a first.</div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><br /></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;">&quot;This is the first rescue that I’ve made, personally, and a lot of people in the department. We just don’t do it very often, fortunately,&quot; Perkins said.&nbsp;</div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><br /></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;">Donis said her firefighters don’t like to call themselves heroes, but their actions speak for themselves.</div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><br />&quot;This is your firefighters at work at their very best. And it’s pretty impressive,&quot; Donis said. &quot;And I’m very proud to be their chief and to let you see what they do everyday.&quot;</div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><br /></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;">It’s unclear where the mother of the child was during the fire, according to the Fresno Police Department, which is investigating whether to pursue charges against the mother.<br /></div></div>
