Cal fire has placed 16 workers on administrative leave because of allegations that firefighters at a Fire Academy had sex with prostitutes. It reportedly happened at a fire academy in Amador County. The allegations surfaced after Batallion Chief Orville Fleming was arrested in May on suspicion of murdering his girlfriend Sarah Douglas. The California Highway Patrol is investigating policy violations within Cal Fire.

It’s unclear if the violations involved prostitutes on department property or not, but some see the suspensions as damage control.

"Certainly it is. When you put that many people on leave they are clearly trying to clean house," said Attorney Charles Magill.

"Before we started another academy up we wanted to make sure we weren’t disrupting those new recruits starting next week," said Cal Fire Spokesperson Daniel Berlant. "So we wanted to bring in new instructors and put those facing allegations on administrative time off, pending that completion."

The California Highway Patrol is conducting the investigation and results are expected to be released within two weeks, according to Cal Fire.
