Fresno City Water Plan Passes 6 to 1

Fresno City residents can expect to see an increase in their water bill by March 30th.&nbsp; After several forum and listening to resident’s concerns, a 429- million dollar water infrastructure plan was approved with a 6 to 1 vote.&nbsp; A vote on a plan was an urgent matter.&nbsp; if the city did not come up with a solution the state could have taken over.<br /><br />In order to keep city officials accountable for the money spent on water infrastructure and other large projects, the council also approved the enterprise and accountability oversight act’.&nbsp;<br /><br /><br />&quot;We won’t find out three years from now that we are way behind schedule and we are going to go over budget.&nbsp; This council and administration has prevented that from happening&quot;, said Fresno City Councilman Clint Olivier.<br /><br />One council member had a change of heart regarding the topic, Esmeralda Soria first opposed the plant but voted ‘yes’.&nbsp; As the plan moves forward the average family can expect their water bill to double in the next five years.&nbsp; In order to help low income families with the cost increase, council members created a program that will curve rates for those who qualify.&nbsp; <br /><br />Now that the water infrastructure plan is in place, plans to start construction will move along quickly.&nbsp; Some of the first construction contract are expected to be handed out by this fall.&nbsp; The projects is scheduled to be complete by 2018.</div>
