Fresno police play wheelchair basketball game

Police officers played an intense game of basketball over the weekend in wheelchairs.

The officers were challenged on Saturday by members of the Adaptive Sports Program at Children’s Hospital Central California. They started their own team called the Fresno Wheelers just over a year ago, and have been looking for new challengers on the court.

“They don’t all have to be paraplegic to be in a wheelchair. Some patients have amputations, some of them have cerebral palsy we really have a wide array of why they have a physical disability, but they are all the same in the chair,” Jennifer Crocker of Children’s Hospital Central California said.

Crocker says wheelchair basketball gives the officers a chance to learn what it is like to be disabled and also gives people with disabilities a chance to participate in a physical competition.
