Fresno State players remember Jerry Tarkanian

Former Fresno State players are also remembering their coach.

Coach Tarkanian made so many memories at Selland Arena. We’ll never forget him biting on his towel when he would get nervous. This is where Fresno State hoops had it’s hey day, giving players like Chris Herren a second shot.

We caught up with him, some other former players and even Fresno State coaches, for their memories of Tark the Shark.

"I talked to him on New Years and uhh he couldn’t say much. You know, but I just want him to know and I said this to him at the Hall Of Fame that his coaching and his legacy for me goes way beyond basketball. He’s influenced and affected my life far more in my recovery than in basketball," Chris Herren said.

"There’s too many stories man. It’s gonna settle in. I guess in a little bit but you know the two men in my life. My dad and my second dad in Tark. You know they’re not here. He saw something in me and you know the rest was ESPN history," Dominick Young said.

"He meant a lot. To give a local kid a chance to play for such a great coach. It was such an honor. I never thought I would have that opportunity. Growing up I always wanted to play for him but then he retired for that stint. And so I didn’t think that chance was going to come. And then when he came to Fresno State it was a dream come true for me," Demetrius Porter said.

"We lost a giant. A giant that impacted so many lives, and that’s what I looked at, the lives that he impacted. The men that he helped grow to be men. And the fondness that his players had for him. And that’s the legacy that you want to leave and he was a great man in doing that," Rodney Terry said.

Obviously, there are plenty of others who have been remembering Coach Tarkanian around the country, former players of his or just those involved in the game.
