Hmong New Year Good For Local Businesses

The third day of the Hmong New Year festivities at the Fresno Fairgrounds brought huge crowds. Local businesses say the event is their busiest time of year. <br /><br />The Kings Canyon Motel says they haven’t had a single vacancy since the Hmong New Year began. <br /> <br />&quot;We get families from all the way from Minnesota. We get a family from Eureka every year who makes a reservation and it helps our business,&quot; Prashant Patel with the Kings Canyon Motel said. <br /><br />The family owned business has seen some regular customers over the years during Hmong New Year and they have learned a lot about the culture. <br /><br />&quot;It’s very unique traditions.&quot; Patel said. &quot;They have different clothing, great food they promote. As the families come every year we get to know them.&quot;<br /><br />Over 100,000 people are expected to attend this years event. For many the Hmong New Year is like a big family reunion and also about making new friends. That’s the point of traditional games like ball toss. <br /><br />Patel says today was the busiest day. <br /><br />&quot;The clients will keep coming in until 11:00, 12:00 at night. Yesterday we probably turned down 30 plus families that came in,&quot; Patel said. <br /><br />The celebration last until New Years Day. The fairgrounds open at 9 am and close at 5 pm. <br /><br /><br /></div>
