Janessa’s Grandmother Reacts to Stafford’s Arrest

Janessa Ramirez’ family has said to feel peace of mind knowing an arrest had been made in her case but today there are several questions as to why Isaac Stafford was released from jail.

Janessa’s grandmother Frances Juarez said "He’s not the one that shot my granddaughter but he’s the one that started the shooting. How did he get loose? Why did they let him go?" Juarez found out Stafford was released from jail last night and can’t understand why. A cell phone video shows him running to his family and friends.

"Knowing that he’s walking the streets doesn’t make me feel better, my granddaughter is not walking the streets, he deserves to be put behind bars," Juarez said.

Last Friday Chief Jerry Dyer announced Isaac Stafford and Brian Cooks’ arrest in connection to Janessa’s homicide. Today Fresno police said they would not comment on Stafford’s release and directed all questions to the district attorney.

Fresno county district attorney said that at this time no charges were filed against Isaac Stafford, pending further investigation and would not comment further.

Legal analyst Charles Maguill believes Stafford’s release is a strategy. "Mr. Cooks is in a more precarious position when the person that was firing at him wasn’t charged because he’ll have to justify his shot as self defense," Cook said.

Maguill believes it doesn’t mean Stafford is out of the woods, he said he can be re-arrested and face charges at any time. Something Juarez is hopeful for.
