July Thunderstorm Surprises Parts of the Valley

The first day of July had many seeing some wild weather in the Central Valley, with rain, thunder and lightning, while other areas of the Valley remained completely dry.

The storms began around 8:30 p.m.

In this drought year, the storm came as a nice surprise to many and caught those outside off guard.

"I was like whoa, what was that? You know, because you’re not expecting that," said Luis Gonzalez in Fresno.

"I wasn’t expecting it to rain. There was another person here, and when it started to rain, we started to look at each other. We kind of got happy," said Hugo Valdez in Fresno.

According to PG&E, the storm knocked out power to about 1,500 customers around Fresno, and crews are working to restore power as soon as possible.
