Man Arrested for Stabbing Girlfriend

A Fresno man is behind bars, accused of stabbing his girlfriend and trying to attack his mother and teenage son.

The attack happened in an upscale neighborhood in Northeast Fresno.

Police were called to two separate scenes. The first call came from St. Agnes hospital where a woman had been dropped off with stab wounds. Minutes later, several calls were made to 911 about a man trying to attack his mother with a knife at a home on Kelso Avenue in Fresno.

The suspect is 41-year-old Steven David Clark. Police believe he was high on methamphetamine when he stabbed his girlfriend. And tried to attack his mother and teenage son.

It was a frightening morning inside this home on Kelso Avenue, not far from Clovis West High School. Neighbors heard sirens around ten in the morning.

“I wasn’t sure if it was something going on at the school but I was surprised it was in my neighborhood,” said Jill who lives behind the home where the attack occurred.

When police arrived, the suspect was in the front yard of the home. His family told officers that 41-year-old Steven David Clark had tried to stab his mother and 18-year-old son.

“His mother had a knife that she gave us, I guess he was trying to attack her with that knife,” said Lt. Joe Gomez with the Fresno Police Department.

Clark had reportedly gone to the home after he stabbed his girlfriend. Police say he had driven her to a home nearby where she was doing some remodeling work. And as she was getting out of the car, attacked her.

“And for unknown reasons he just started stabbing her. He stabbed her in the upper body, in the neck several times. She’s stabbed in the hands those could be defensive wounds,” Lt. Gomez said.

He then drove her to the hospital and dropped her off. The woman was in surgery and was expected to survive.

Clark was no injured but was taken to the hospital for observation until whatever drugs were in his system had cleared.

Back in the neighborhood where it started no one answered the door at the home when we knocked.

Neighbors are stunned that this all unfolded here.

“It’s very quiet it’s very unusual to hear sirens,” neighbor Jill said.

Clark faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence and criminal threats. His bail is set at 100-thousand dollars.
