Man assaults a police officer in West Central Fresno

A suspect is in custody after assaulting a police officer in Fresno. <br /><br />It happened around 10 o’clock last night at the Executive Inn near Hughes and Olive. That’s where officers made contact with Andrew Esparza, 25.<br /><br />Police tried to arrest him for a probation violation, but that’s when he punched one of the officers in the face and took off running. They eventually caught up with him and tased him, but he fought it off and at one point ripped the taser away from police. <br /><br />After a short struggle, officers were able to subdue him and take him into custody. They found meth on him and say he admits to smoking it prior to his arrest.<br /></div>
