Merced officer released from the hospital after being shot by suspect

An update on an officer involved shooting in Merced that left a police officer and a suspect wounded. <br /><br />The officer was released from the hospital last night and is back at home recovering. Chief Norm Andrade says the officer was shot in the hand and in his bulletproof vest. If backup officers hadn’t arrived, Andrade believes the suspect would have shot the officer many more times.<br /><br />&quot;We are going to do everything that we have in our power to make sure that we bring people like this to justice and make sure people like this stay in jail where they belong,&quot;&nbsp;<span style="font-size: 13.3333330154419px;">Chief Norm Andrade, with the Merced Police Department&nbsp;said.<br /><br /></span>The alleged shooter, Jaime Caudillo, is believed to be the passenger of a car driven by 24-year-old Steven Rincon. Investigators say Caudillo and Rincon are well-known gang members.<br /><br /></div>
