Mom Arrested After Kids Injured In Fire

A mother of three children in critical condition is arrested, accused of leaving the children alone in their apartment. <br /><br />Fresno police say Jamela Brown, 19 was at a store when a fire broke out Sunday. All three children were rescued by Fresno firefighters. <br /><br />&quot;Without a doubt she placed those children in danger and we are very fortunate today that we do not have three dead children in the city of Fresno,&quot; Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said. <br /><br />Police believe brown was gone for at least 30 minutes. Her one, three and four year old children where left alone. <br /><br />Helmet cam video from Fresno Fire shows Brown telling firefighters her kids were inside the home. She came home to smoke and flames engulfing her apartment. Police say she unlocked the security gate at the front door for firefighters. The three unconscious children were rescued. <br /><br />&quot;All three of those children today remain in the hospital they are listed in critical but stable condition. All three of those children are sedated and are on ventilators,&quot; Dyer said. <br /><br />Dyer says the children suffered smoke inhalation and the three year old has a burn on her hand. They will recover but will have ongoing health issues from their injuries. <br /><br />Police say brown initially told them she left her children with another adult but that was untrue. Instead she locked up the apartment and took the only key with her. <br /><br />&quot;Locked the security door to where they could no get out and the back sliding glass door was also found to be locked which prevented them from escaping that apartment fire,&quot; Dyer said. <br /><br />Brown was arrested for felony willful child cruelty. <br /><br />Fresno Fire has not determined what caused the fire but believe it originated near the television in the living room. <br /></div>
