Nine Year Old Diego Estrada Laid to Rest

<font size="2"><p>Family and friends said a final goodbye to a 9 year old Parlier boy. Diego Estrada was hit by a truck that was driven by a 17 year old unlicensed driver while walking to school.</p><p>Hundreds of people filled a small church in Parlier to give Diego Estrada a final goodbye. The tragic accident that took his life rocked an entire community.</p>Joe De Luna didn’t know the boy but wanted to support his family. &quot;I know he’s in a better place so i’m happy about that but its bitter sweet. We feel sadness for the family, we have to keep them in our prayer.&quot;<br /><br />Last week Diego was walking to school with his sister and a friend when police say a 17 year old unlicensed driver lost control of the truck he was driving and slammed into the group of students, then into a brick wall.<br /><br />Parlier Unified school District Superintendent Gerardo Alvarez said &quot;None of us wish that this would ever happen. Tragedy hits us at a blink of an eye and that’s what happened in this situation.&quot;<br /><br />During mass, diego’s parents and those who knew him prayed for strength to be able to move on without their son <br /><br />Blanca Polayo described Diego as a beautiful and playful kid who always smiled, she took care of him at times since he was a baby. Now she can’t believe he’s gone, just like many other students who knew Diego.<br /><br />&quot;Only time heals the wounds and I know they’re hurting. Kids at that age can’t comprehend why this tragedy happened. They’re coping the best they can,&quot; Alvarez said.<br /><br />The driver faces vehicular manslaughter and distracted driving charges. Its made education leaders look into bringing back driver’s education classes to the high school<br /><br />&quot;We want to educate students on the importance of driving safely and to help them get their license and follow California laws as far as driving is concerned,&quot; Alvarez said.<br /><br />The 17 year old driver will be tried as a juvenile. No charges have been filed against his mother.</font></div>
