Outpouring of Community Support for Janessa's Family

<div class="StoryBlock">
<br /><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">As the Fresno Police Department continues to search for the suspects who shot and killed 9-year old Janessa Ramirez on Sunday, her family and friends move forward to plan for her memorial and funeral.</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">Ramirez was struck by a stray bullet in front of a laundromat at the corner of Clinton and Marks in West Central Fresno. Police said the gun fire came from two gang groups about 300-yards away from Ramirez and her mother, Stacey Gonzales.</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">Gonzales said on Friday that she and her family has received an outpouring of support from the community. She called the support a blessing.</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">Nancy Alejandrez is a close friend to Gonzales. She also has an in-home day-care center which Ramirez attended from ages 4 to 7.</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">Alejandrez said, &quot;My heart is aching and it’s so broken because she’s nine years old.&quot;</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">Alejandrez said Gonzales asked her to gather food for a potluck reception following Saturday’s funeral. Alejandrez said she didn’t question the request at all, knowing she had to help out her grieving friend. But, she knew she could not put together a meal for hundreds all on her own. So, she reached out to social media for donations of food.</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&quot;This is what I need to do. Not only to show my friend the loyalty I have for my friend and family, but it kind of soothes my heart a little bit. But then when it’s all done, what do you do?&quot; cried Alejandrez.</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">On Friday, Alejandrez fought back tears trying to describe her time with Ramirez.</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&quot;Janessa was love. She was a good little girl, always wanted to help, especially with the babies,&quot; said Alejandrez.</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">Alejandrez collected food at her day-care center on Friday morning, and proceeded to collect more goods at Star Palace in Fresno in the afternoon. She said she didn’t realize the outpouring of support they’d receive from strangers, from people and businesses in the community. Alejandrez said, on top of private donations, they’ve also received donations from businesses like Vons, Starbucks, Trader Joe’s, Save Mart, and the Macaroni Grill.</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&quot;Every time somebody calls me or buys something, it just…&quot; paused Alejandrez to let out a cry. &quot;Because we shouldn’t be doing this. She’s 9-years old. How do you explain that?&quot;</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">Gonzales said her faith in God and inherent human goodness is what’s helping her get through.</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">She said, &quot;I’m very thankful for everybody that it helping with any little thing. Even if it’s just to call and tell me ‘Hi’. It’s a blessing.&quot;</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">Gonzales said she hopes people continue to smile for her little girl, because she said that is what Ramirez would have wanted.</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">Ramirez’s funeral will be held on Saturday morning at Saint Peter’s Cemetery in Fresno.</font></div> <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;">&nbsp;</div></div>
