Porterville teen is honored at Rose Parade

Today a life-saving wish by a Porterville teenager was honored at the Rose Parade.

Back in 2010, 15-year-old Edward Alcantar died and his family honored his request to be a tissue donor. Earlier this month, his parents completed a floral portrait of their son. It appeared on the Donate Life Rose Parade float.

This year’s theme is "The Never Ending Story" and includes portraits of other donors from around the country. Edward’s mother is honoring her son’s wish to help others.

"If anything happens to me mom, I want to be a donor. And that just stood in my mind. So when they called us to see if we were interested I knew in the bottom of my heart that’s what he wanted," Lydia Alcantar, mother said.
