Skateboarding competition held by local school district

Skateboarding is not often recognized as a sport, but Fresno Unified is changing that.

It held a skateboarding competition over the weekend. It’s the first time a skateboarding competition has been held by the school district. It’s an attempt to reach out to all students. The plan is to also set up skateboarding clubs at middle and high school campuses.

"What we’re trying to do is one; get the kids to qualify, to bring up their grades, just like any other sport. And we also want to provide them the platform to do what they do best, and we want recognize that achievement," Grant Pullen, organizer of the Fresno Unified Skateboard Championship, said.

To be a part of the skateboarding club, participants have to meet the same requirements as other team sports on campus.
