Some Local Stores Say Cyber Monday is Not Big Money Maker

<div class="StoryBlock">
<div style="margin: 0px;"><font size="2">Black Friday weekend may be winding down, but many people will actually begin their Christmas shopping tomorrow with Cyber Monday. According to the National Retail Federation, more than 126 million Americans plan to shop online on Cyber Monday. However, some local retailers said on Sunday that sales are doing just fine in store, and they don’t rely on profits from their website and Cyber Monday.</font></div><div style="margin: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">Some stores like Sports Station at the Fashion Fair mall in Fresno said they offer great sales on Cyber Monday, but said Black Friday deals definitely bring in a larger profit with the shoppers in-store. Store manager Juan Arellano showed off the store’s website in anticipation of Cyber Monday.</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&quot;Some of the sales that we still have going on are our baseball dugout jackets. We have them really discounted from like $140 to $85, so that’s a big discount on those,&quot; said Arellano.</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">Arellano said their store in the Fashion Fair mall has been around for 25 years, and in-store sales are solid.</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">He said, &quot;The website has only been around for, I’d say, three or four years. So, it’s fairly new for us. It’s going okay, you know? Obviously, we can always do better.&quot;</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">Arrellano said he hopes shoppers will visit their website tomorrow, even though most of their profits come from customers in-store.</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">Fresno shopper Bernadette Hill said excitedly, &quot;I do all of my Christmas shopping online. I go through E-Bates and then I do all the cyber weekend shopping, and I know Cyber Monday’s tomorrow! I’m waiting on some stuff to buy tomorrow!&quot;</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">Hill said she banks on Cyber Monday for her deals mainly because it’s easier to shop with a mouse, than her feet.</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&quot;Getting up at 4am, 3:30am in the morning or whatever to stand in line in the freezing cold is not my thing!&quot; joked Hill.</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">Tracy Tosta, the general manager of Kwirkworld at River Park in Fresno said online shopping continues to get more popular every year, despite the traffic from Black Friday.</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">Tosta said, ‘I do know most of my friends do shop online. I got a reserved group of friends who like to find their good deals, so it is very popular.&quot;</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">Because of that trend, Arellano said they’re going to try to focus on Cyber Monday just as much as Black Friday.</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&quot;Definitely we’d like to expand our website, get that out there, get that name going out a little bit better,&quot; said Arellano.</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">The National Retail Federation said Cyber Monday continues to be popular because a lot of people use their smartphones to shop as well.</font></div></div>
