Teens Burglarize Northeast Fresno Home

Fresno police say two 15-year-old males burglarized a home in Northeast Fresno. It happened around 11 am where a neighbor caught them in the act and called police.

"They broke a back window. Took some personal property, some jewelry and other items. They used a backpack to carry that property out of the residence," Andy Mercado with Fresno Police said.

The victim wasn’t home at the time. When officers arrived they caught the teens jumping a fence into a neighbors yard. The home was surrounded and police used a K-9 to detain and arrest the teens. Fresno Police say thieves do target homes during the holidays.

"You want to do the obvious things. Lock your doors and windows. Alarm systems definitely help. But here it was the help of a good neighbor that helped us catch these two burglars," Mercado said.

Fresno Ag Hardware says they get a lot of customers who have just been through a burglary and are looking to make their homes safer.

"People who have had their front door straight kicked in. We’ve had people come in and say they were there during the burglary," Ian Williams said.

They sell a number of items that can help you protect your home. Wedges for doors and windows, motion activated lights and door re-enforcement systems.

"They are basically pieces of metal that go over your door and they also go onto the inside of your door as well to give it a little bit more reinforcement," Williams said.

Many people are choosing heavy duty locks for front doors that are controlled with a smart phone. If you are looking for piece of mind, putting valuables in a safe may do the trick.
