We are Fresno: The Artist in Everyone

One Fresno art studio is helping even the most hopeless painters create their own works of art.

The woman behind the studio says opening the space was a big risk, but now she’s helping people reach their own personal victories. Meet Pixie, the enthusiastic owner of "The Artist in Me." A Fresno paint studio where Pixie says anyone can learn to paint.

"For everyone, every age and every ability," Pixie said.

Pixie herself is proof, after more than 15 years in education she decided to drop everything and chase her happiness.

"It was a lot of risk, and it freaked out my husband, but you just jump out and try it," Pixie said.

Now, she leads painters in one picture a lesson. Step-by-Step from the first strokes, to special effects, to drying in between coats, using blowdryers Pixie mounted to the wall. Today it’s a snowman. Looks complicated, but Pixie promises it’s not.

"It’s just a matter of, once someone shows you how to do it, now you know," Pixie said.

People of all ages sign up for lessons, like six-year-old Brooklyn who’s painted before multiple times.

"I’m going to hang them in my room," Brooklyn said.

But even first timers find success here. Barbara Brown and her husband are painting for the first time.

"I wasn’t sure if I could do it," Barbara said. "I can’t really paint…."

But each painter gives credit for their victories to their fearless leader who says the last few years have painted a beautiful scene on the canvas of her life.

"In two years, I was able to have it reflect back that I actually touched people’s lives and people are happy to have come, you know?" Pixie said.

Just like Brooklyn, Pixie is hanging her happiness on the walls for everyone to see.

Megan Rupe reporting.
