Home Grown: Celebrating Century Old Businesses

Walking into Kogetsu-Do is like taking a bite out of history.  The shop has been through a lot since it first opened in 1915.  The original owners are Lynn Ikeda’s grandparents.  During World War II they were forced to leave the shop in the hands of others while they where in an interment camp in Arkansas.

The shop is well known for their mochi, a secret family recipe that has been passed down from generation to generation.  Kogetsu-Do is located at 920 ‘F’ Street in Downtown Fresno.

Lynn says most of the ingredients used to make the mochi comes from local valley farms.  As you explore the small charming shop you quickly realize that you are standing in the presence of history.  Even some of the equipment Lynn uses today is the same as the one used by her grandfather.
