Kennedy Fire (Wildfire)

Earlier today, the Kennedy Fire was discovered in a lightning-struck tree with ground fire below it burning in manzanita and timber litter on the Hume Lake Ranger District in Giant Sequoia National Monument, Sequoia National Forest. The Fire is about 100 x 25 feet in size and located near Kennedy Meadow Trailhead, about 15 miles east of Dunlap. The Kennedy Fire was discovered by a reconnaissance flight searching for lightning-caused fires after weekend thunderstorms. Firefighters with the U.S. Forest Service are on scene and expect to keep the fire from spreading further.
