Lt. Gov. Newsome at Fresno State June 3 for cannabis policy forum

A forum at Fresno State will take a closer look at legalizing marijuana in California.

The Blue Ribbon Commission on Marijuana Policy, chaired by Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, is preparing the state for a 2016 ballot incintive that would legalize the sale and use of marijuana, like alcohol, in the state of California.

If marijuana became legal in California, it would join states like Colorado and 24 others including Washington D.C.

The Blue Ribbon Commission on Marijuana Policy says their purpose is to bring understanding of various policy questions related to the possibility of legalizing, taxing and regulating marijuana for adults in California.

There have been other forums, similar to the one being held at Fresno State, in Los Angeles and Oakland.

The forum starts at 10:30 a.m. at the North Gym.

The public is invited to contribute to the conversation in person or online at www.safeandsmartpolicy.org.
