4th Grader Holds Fundraiser for Injured Fresno Firefighter

The outpouring of community support continues for injured firefighter Pete Dern.
Dern fell through the roof of a burning home last month and suffered severe burns.
A fourth grader at Saint Anthony’s Cathloic School in northwest Fresno set up a fundraiser to help Captain Dern with medical expenses.
Luke Orlando came up with a plan to allow kids to have a free-dress day for those who donated $ 1. He also organized a show and tell from the Fresno Fire Department.
"I feel good because he is getting money and it’s a lot of money to pay everyday for the hospital," said Luke Orlando.
Luke has dreams of becoming a firefighter himself, just like his uncle who is also a member of the Fresno Fire and started his career with Captain Dern.
"I worked on the search and rescue team the entire time, he’s always been around and he a great man. So this is wonderful," said Frank Monterrosa.
Doctors have said Dern will remain hospitalized until at least October.
