7 Sent to Hospital After Late Night Fire

One police officer and several other people are recovering from smoke inhalation Monday morning following a late night fire in Northwest Fresno.

The blaze was discovered just about 12:30 a.m. by Fresno Police Officers in the area of Audobon and Lexington.

Fire officials say several officers arrived at the scene, saw an active fire and rushed into the burning home.

Officers rescued several people inside the home.

Seven people in total were transported to area hospitals for treatment for smoke inhalation.

More than 30 firefighters were called out to work this two alarm fire, following the police officers’ initial rescue effort.

A cause for the blaze is not yet known.
