Armenian Voice: Fresno Man Reaches Out with Radio Station

You can find Armenian Voice online at armenianvoice.com.

To his family, he’s Hagop Kojekian.

To his listeners and fans, he’s Jack Kojek.

Kojekian created his internet radio station Armenian Voice (and Kojek) out of a desire to feel closer to his culture.  Kojekian was homesick after moving from Lebanon after marrying his wife Suzie, who’s from Fresno.  Now, his 24-hour-a-day station reaches Armenians living around the world.  Hundreds listen at a time.

"There are some people who don’t have Armenians around them," Kojekian says.  "Just by themselves. Don’t have Armenian neighbors, or a church."

Kojekian broadcasts out of what he calls his man cave– part radio DJ booth, part living room and part bar.  He plays music and talks about issues important to Armenians worldwide.  He now has a regular following.

"I should thank you every day," one caller says from New Jersey.  "You changed my life."

He started the radio station for himself.  But with Armenians now spread out from each other across the globe, Kojekian soon found he was not alone.  And now, he never is.
