Arsonist caught after at least five fires started

A woman is in custody, accused of starting five fires.

Police say she was first spotted in the area of Gateway and Clinton. Two witnesses say they saw her light a fire near the Fresno County Probation Office. They held her there until the fire department and police showed up to arrest her. Crews say, she started the fires near several businesses, either in the grass, or in dumpsters.

"Some of the fires were close enough to businesses that we were getting worried that it might extend into them, but the fire crews that responded were able to contain them to the point of origin," Tony Escobedo said.

Police say they know of at least five she started. They’re investigating now, to see if they started more. Her name has not yet been released.
