Cal Fire is beefing up its staff and getting ready for an intense fire season across California. Last fall, the "King fire" in the Sierras, east of Sacramento, destroyed 80 structures and burned more than 97,000 acres.
This year, fire crews are expecting a busy season.
"Ninety-five percent of the fires we respond to are caused by the activity of people. That means almost every single fire is preventable," Daniel Berlant, a Cal Fire spokesman said.
Fire crews are reminding homeowners to make sure there is 100 ft. of defensible space around their homes.
