Corden greeted us with a warm hand-shake, though he still seemed a little nervous. Still, it was clear Corden couldn’t wait to show his new home on late night.

“Nerves are good,” Corden said. “You’re only nervous when you want to do your best.”

Corden may be new to your TV, but he’s not new to show business. He’s an established performer, writer, and overall talent in the UK. You might also recognize him from his role in this year’s Into the Woods. He played the baker.

“To have my own show, it’s too much for me to think about sometimes,” he says. “And if I could go and tell my 12-year-old self that this is what my life would be for a little period of time… his head would explode.”

Rob Crabbe and Ben Winston are the show’s executive producers.

“Because he’s not established, it kind of opens the door for us… we can kind of do anything,” Crabbe said. “Because whatever we do in this show, is what’s going to establish him in this country.”

“There’s moments of huge pride there, of how well he’s doing,” said Winston. “I just hope America takes to him like Britain always has.”

As for what’s new and different for Corden’s turn as host, the two say it’s pretty much everything.

“Your graphics, your theme music to your band to your set to your guests… all very new,” Winston said. “It’s been a lot of work to do in the last 8-12 weeks since we’ve been doing this.

“We wanted it to feel like a place that would exist at 12:30,” Corden adds. “That it would be fun, that it would feel… have a late-night feeling to it. But we also wanted it to be bright. Which is why we picked a couch that’s brighter… and this sign up here, we can change every show if we want to.”

As far as show structure, don’t expect anything routine. Guests will enter from the back, and all sit together. Corden describes the format as sitting down to a dinner party. There’s also a bar, but just for the audience – not Corden.

“I really love an orange crush,” he says, laughing. “I’m basically a child. That’s what I’m saying. I’m a child, who thinks it’s fun to have a bar on his set.”

Corden says, he just wants people to have fun before falling asleep. The show debuts Monday night at 12:30 on CBS. The show’s first guests will be Tom Hanks and Mila Kunis.
