Central Unified School District

For students like Julianna Vellutini, summer time means free time, a reason why she enjoys using the high schools library.

"I know i’m a really big reader and the county library is pretty far away from where i live so it’s nice to be able to come somewhere close", says high school junior Julianna Vellutini.

To help keep some school library open and and partially fund some summer programs, Faiser Permanente Fresno donated $ 7,500 to the Central Unified School District.

"It’s critically important because it lives our mission and our mission is to make sure we have healthy communities", says Debbie Hemker with Kaiser Permanente.

District officials say five schools much of the summer offering things like k-2 literacy camp, central enrichment summer activity program, kinder camp, special education camp, library use.

"It’s free, totally free, they have access to the libraries, they also have access to those programs and so we have access for students kinder through high school and different fun engaging experiences for them", says Assistant Superintendent Dr. Laurel Ashlock.

The city of Fresno also offers a variety of programs to keep young ones busy over the summer and it’s all easy on the pocketbook.

Director of Communication with the City of Fresno Mark Standriff says, "we try to price them in a way so they are affordable to all kinds of families and there are a number of free activities at a number of our community centers".

Some include sports clubs, adventure camps, bmx camps, age specific programs, pools

"On those days especially on those hot days where it gets over 105, pools are open and free on those hot days", says Standriff.

Whether your children are interested in sports or like to read, you’re bound to find an activity they’ll enjoy, in both the city and the county .

"Whether i’m using resources as pleasure or being able to help, it’s really fun to be able to come in here", says Vellutini.
