City Of Fresno Report On Homelessness

Fresno City leaders admit there’s still a long way to go.
But they say a new report shows a dramatic decrease in the number of homeless on the streets of Fresno.
According to the latest "Point In Time" report, there was a 34% decrease in homelessness in the Fresno-Madera County area
from January of last year to January of this year.
In the City of Fresno, the report claims overall homelessness has dropped 40% year to year.
The report shows a 47% decrease in "unsheltered" homeless residents.
City leaders say the Fresno Police Department’s Homeless Task Force and other efforts are making a big difference
in getting help for the homeless.
Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin says it’s been a team effort, "We have seen an incredible community-wide effort.
we’ve got nonprofit organizations, public agencies, private individuals all coming together to make this system work."
The Poverello House in Fresno is promoting a new "Map Point’ program, where anyone can walk into the door and say they need help.
At that point they’re immediately connected with services.
