Cleanup Continues Following Thursday's Storm

<div class="StoryBlock">
<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">The clean-up continues this weekend after the storm that began on Thursday. It gave many parts of the valley the rain and water it needed, but it didn’t come without a price. Many roads were flooded, some traffic came to a halt, and a tree even toppled onto someone’s house in the South Valley. It’s been a stormy few days, and this may only be the beginning.</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">Officer Gabriel Perez with the Fresno Division of the California Highway Patrol said, &quot;What we did see the last couple of nights was more than normal amounts of traffic collisions, especially on the cloverleaf onramps.&quot;</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">Perez said in his business, when it starts to rain, it’s not just water they get swamped with.</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&quot;We go out there, and we know that it’s going to be busy. And we just take it one call at a time,&quot; Perez said in regards to the rainy, busy days.</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">The storm began on Thursday with rain throughout the valley, from Gustine to Fresno.</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">Perez said, &quot;We did have several accidents that did cause some major backups, nothing notable of any major injuries.&quot;</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">The CHP said on top of the accidents on the freeways, there was also major flooding, which caused a headache for many commuters. By the time Friday rolled around, Shaver Lake had turned into a winter wonderland, and farmers on the westside were jumping for joy over the downpour.</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">Meteorologist Dave Spahr said, &quot;We pretty much got what we expected from it, we knew we were gonna get a good dose.&quot;</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">Spahr said areas hit hardest with flooding likely didn’t have a good defense system in place. He said it didn’t help that it hadn’t rained in a long while. The storm system dropped record rain totals in Fresno, and it seems it may only be the tip of the iceberg.</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&nbsp;</font></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><font size="2">&quot;We have another series of storm systems coming,&quot; warned Spahr.</font></div></div>
