Clovis High grad gets diploma, feather and all

It took a lawsuit, high profile news coverage and a last minute compromise, but Clovis High School’s Christian Titman received his diploma tonight with his feather proudly on display.

Titman and the ACLU sued Clovis Unified, after they said the school would not let him wear an eagle feather to celebrate his Native American heritage.  Clovis Unified has a strict policy when it comes to graduation dress code.

The group eventually agreed to a compromise, one that was seen tonight.

Before he walked across the stage to receive his diploma, Titman wore the feather in his hair.  After, he quickly moved the feather from his hair to the tassel hanging from his cap.
