Corrine Fire Burns Through 1,000 Acres

Fighting from the ground, and from the sky, firefighter using anything they can, hoses, flame retardant, and even lake water to put the massive Corrine fire out.

The fire broke out Thursday night. Over 1,000 acres turned from brown to black in less than 24 hours.

Mandatory evacuations leaving dozens of homes vacant. Cal Fire says crews from all over the state are teaming up, fforming a line of defense, even surrounding those empty homes.

"I don’t want to leave my house. I don’t want to leave, but I don’t want to get stuck in there," Annette Smart said.

Smart is leaving her home near Corrine lake, taking her 5 dogs with her but she’s not sure where to go.

"I guess I’m going to go find shelter for my dogs, somewhere cool for them," Smart said.

Just up the road, Gene Schuette was also told to leave, but he too is keeping his dog safe, doing it by staying home.

"I’m not leaving my dog. There ain’t no way," Schuette said.

Smart says she scared, but knows the danger comes with the territory.

"You can’t expect to be invincible from fires. Hopefully it won’t get my house," Smart said.

Cal Fire says the fire is burning at a moderate rate of speed, and there continues to be a threat to the north fork community. Cal Fire is still determining what started this massive fire.
