Deputies Arrest Man They Claim Targeted Child For Sex

Fresno County Sheriff’s investigators are warning parents to watch what their children are doing online. The warning comes after deputies arrest a man they say made arrangements online to meet a ten year-old girl for sex.

Detectives didn’t reveal where in Fresno they arrested 44 year-old Michael Cancino, but they did search Cancino’s home in the 3300 block of North Millbrook. This, after investigators say he targeted a 10 year old-girl for sex online.

"It frightens me that they are here on this block actually. We’re not around here much, but I mean I have a sister too and she’s pretty young. I don’t want anything happening to her," said one Fresno resident who didn’t want to be identified.

Last week Fresno County investigators got a call from a concerned citizen about suspicious activity online.

"They saw some information that somebody might be trying to solicit sex," said Tony Botti of the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators won’t reveal what website it was, but say they identified Cancino. With the help of federal and state authorities investigators tracked Cancino’s online activity.

Investigators say Cancino made a deal to meet a 10 year-old girl in Fresno to engage in sex acts. When he showed up he was arrested.

Prosecutors will now take over the case.

"They are going to get all the details I mean obviously they need the investigative tactics we use to show this is a good case and they went to great lengths to identify this man and establish a meeting and ultimately arrest him," said Botti.

As the case moves to the courts the Fresno neighborhood where detectives searched Cancino’s home says it serves as a chilling reminder.

"We’ve got to monitor our kids a little bit more. I believe that parents. It’s all about parenting and watching what they’re doing," said a woman from the neighborhood who didn’t want to be identified.

Cancino was booked into the Fresno County Jail. He faces three felony charges and his bail is at least $ 66,000.
