Deputy Involved Shooting in Tulare

A deputy involved shooting investigation is underway in the city of Tulare.

It happened shortly after 3:00 a.m. Wednesday morning on Cartmill Road at De la Vina, just west of Mooney Boulevard.

Tulare Police Sargent Andy Garcia released details into the shooting.

He said it began in the city of Visalia when a Tulare County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to pull over a blue truck for reckless driving.

The driver of the vehicle refused to stop, leading the deputy on a pursuit through Tulare County and into the city of Tulare.

At Cartmill and De la Vina, the truck ended up ramming the deputy’s vehicle several times. That’s when the deputy opened fire, striking the driver.

He was the only occupant in the vehicle and was taken to a local hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.

The 6-year-veteran of the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office has been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.

The Tulare Police Department says they plan to file charges against the suspect, including the attempted murder of the deputy.

At this time, details are emerging, but Cartmill road is closed between Hillman and Mooney Boulevard.

We have a crew at the scene and we’ll bring you the latest when it’s available.
