Employees Return to Work at Scene of Deadly Shooting

Just a day after a gunman killed himself and the mother of his five children inside of Sang Pediatrics medical center in downtown Fresno the employees returned to the office Wednesday morning to let patients know they’ll be closed for the next several days.

"Hazmat hasn’t even been here to do their part so the scene inside is very unsavory to say the least and they are still here making sure all the patients are taken care of, that nobody is left wondering what happened," said Holly Carter a spokesperson for Sang Pediatrics.

Passing by the broken glass and boarded up windows left behind by the chaos at the medical offices Tuesday morning, nearly every employee came to work.

"I was blown away when I got here and they were all inside. I was blown away," said Carter. "I’m not sure how often that happens, but I’m sure it doesn’t happen very often."

Employees at Sang Pediatrics say both at home and in the office they’re haunted by the memories of the shooting that killed their friend and co-worker 33 year old Zyang Vang.

"none of them have been able to sleep. They are all recounting hearing her scream and that’s something they continue to say over and over again is just the screams and they can’t sleep so, this is going to be a really hard recovery," said Carter.

Doctor New Sang offered this statement:

"Zyang has been with SANG Pediatrics for more than ten years. She was an amazing mother, colleague, and employee. She was loyal, warm and caring, and always willing to help everyone. We will do everything in our power to help the family get through this loss."

Stopping by to leave flowers, David Garcia says the people working here are brave.

"That takes a lot of courage for each one of those employees here to show up after something of that magnitude happens right in front of them. Their lives were as stake just as well as anyone else’s," said Garcia.

Sang Pediatrics is working with Fresno Police to organize a team of counselors who will reach out to employees on both sides of this medical center, along with patients and even neighbors feeling the affects of the violence.
