Fans Remember Jerry Tarkanian

Jerry Tarkanian passed away at a Las Vegas Hospital Wednesday. The man known as &quot;Tark the Shark&quot; made a lasting impression during his time as a Fresno State Basketball coach.<br /><br />A special video tribute was played at the Save Mart Center during half time at the women’s basket ball game against UNLV. <br /><br />&quot;He was a great man, very thoughtful man, very generous. He used to like to tell stories all the time,&quot; Al Deniz, a Fresno State Basketball fan said. <br /><br />Walking around the Save Mart Center it’s hard to miss Tarkanian’s influence. Many call the arena &quot;the house that Tark built.&quot;<br /><br />&quot;When he was down at Selland arena it was a sell out all the time,&quot; Deniz said. &quot;Of course everyone was pushing for a new arena. He was very instrumental in getting the backing.&quot;<br /><br />Fresno state played UNLV Wednesday night. It was there that Tarkanian won the National Championship in 1990. <br /><br />For some fans it was some of Tarkanian’s stranger habits that they will never forget.<br /><br />&quot;I loved his towel,&quot; Barbara Troisi said. <br /><br />Troisi has attended every Fresno State Basketball game for over 20 years. She even hits the road with the team. And over the years she got to know Coach Tark. She says he put Fresno State on the map.<br /><br />&quot;Being from Fresno State a graduate and coming in and getting teams together and making a name for our university,&quot; Troisi said.<br /><br /></div>
